Sue Chorpenning has practiced meditation for decades, including the last 20 years with her root lama, Tenzin Wangyal Rinpoche. When she heard about his heart drops, The 3 Doors, it was like a spark of light. She knew that this was her path, and it led to becoming a 3 Doors Teacher. She has regularly guided meditation groups for over 10 years, and several times a year offers mini-retreats online, working with deepening the practice, and our experience of creativity.
Sue is also a visual artist, working with light, which is informed by her experience in meditation. She has done many site-specific installations (called Light Rooms and Dark Rooms), as well as artists’ residencies in Wiesbaden, Germany, Omi NY, Marfa TX and Joshua Tree CA. Sometimes she works with natural light, sometimes reflected or painted light, sometimes electric light, but always with a sense of pausing to look and experience what is available to us – just like in meditation.
Other experiences include teaching college art, years as a licensed financial advisor, and many years as a Reiki Master. Sue lives with her husband, Ken Okuno, also a graduate of NA1 and a Presenter, in Altadena CA, in a house nestled into the foothills of the San Gabriel Mountains.
