Steven Friedman first discovered the teachings of Tenzin Wangyal Rinpoche when a friend recommended his book Awakening the Luminous Mind. He immediately found the practices of the 3 Doors to be very accessible and practically applicable in daily life. On retreat with Rinpoche in 2013, he discovered the profound healing and transformative power of the Bön teachings in a way that gave new meaning and vitality to his personal relationships and work in healthcare.
Steven is a board-certified orthopedic surgeon specializing in hand and upper extremity surgery. He has worked in the field for 35 years and has served on committees for the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons and the American Society for Surgery of the Hand. His other interests include practicing qigong and martial arts and spending time with his family. He loves music and literature, and enjoys reading, writing, and playing the guitar.
Steven is a graduate of the 3 Doors Academy and Presenters Path. He is currently enrolled in the 3 Doors Teacher Training program as both a teacher in training and teaching assistant. Steven serves as Chairman of the Board for the Serenity Ridge Retreat Center. He is a member of the Ligmincha Conduct Council and helps to support the activities of the Ligmincha Practice and Training Committee.
