Juanita Rockwell has been a Buddhist practitioner for forty years, a student of Tenzin Wangyal Rinpoche for twenty, and a mentee of Marcy Vaughn for a dozen. She is a 3 Doors Teacher and graduate of the first North American 3 Doors Academy. As a volunteer, she’s served on the Operations Management Team, assisted with planning, and contributed/edited text for various projects.
Juanita is a writer and director with over a hundred new works of theater, opera, radio, multimedia, and site-specific projects presented on five continents. Her work explores the experience of impermanence and change in our individual lives, in society, and in the natural world. Artistic Director of Company One Theater (Hartford, CT) for six years, she became Founding Director of Towson University’s experimentally-focused Master of Fine Arts in Theater program in 1994 (Baltimore, MD), where she is now Professor Emerita. In 2003, she was among the founding faculty of Wilkes University’s low-residency MA/MFA in Creative Writing (Wilkes-Barre, PA) and has taught at schools and theaters across the US and abroad.
Juanita guides meditation groups, workshops and classes both online and in person. Sometimes she combines the practices of both writing and meditation, including the workshops and monthly community sessions she co-developed with Marcy Vaughn for The 3 Doors. As artist, educator, and human, Juanita values presence, curiosity, connection, and the interdependence of form and content.
